Kippa-Ring, tucked away on the Redcliffe Peninsula just 28 km from the bustling centre of Brisbane, is a place with deep roots in indigenous history. Its name comes from an Aboriginal ceremonial circle that used to be near what’s now Klinger Road—a cultural landmark that almost disappeared by the mid-20th century.

Back in the 1860s, Kippa-Ring was first mapped out for agriculture and managed to keep its rural charm through the 1880s steering clear of the intense coastal development happening elsewhere.

Initially it was a spot with a few farms and the Redcliffe cemetery was set up in 1874. There was talk of a railway from Petrie in the late 19th and early 20th centuries that piqued some interest but it never really got off the ground and remained just an idea for a long time.

The 1960's and 70's were a turning point for Kippa-Ring. It started to shape up into the suburb we know today. The first primary school emerged in 1960 right by the cemetery and another followed in 1976 near Rothwell.

This era also kicked off local shopping options with the opening of Kippa-Ring Village and Peninsula Fair on Anzac Avenue in 1974 and 1975 respectively, bringing supermarkets and a variety of stores to the community.

The suburb’s northern part, originally set aside as a water reserve back in the 1860s is now a lively park packed with sports facilities and part of a residential canal project.

The wet areas to the west have been transformed into the Nathan Road Wetlands Reserve and now house the Redcliffe Aerodrome. By the late 2000s the area had grown so much that part of it was carved out to create Newport, a new development from the residential sections of Kippa-Ring and nearby Scarborough in 2008.
